[MISC] Your future at LJ

Well, we knew that LJ was heading toward a more social/Facebook future, and I guess that this lastest news post has confirmed it.
It began with the official announcement of LJ Media, a new online publishing group created to find active and interesting LiveJournal communities that desire to grow, and then help transform them into media sites.

I don't really care about that, since I've moved to Dreamwidth already. But there are a lot of communities/people who are still at LJ and it scares me a bit.
The fact that they took out the subject line was already a blow for kink meme communities, but I guess that it's just a beginning. There was also the integration of Twitter and Facebook to LJ.
If they want to turn more pro/news journal/visible to the public, I don't think that fandom will appreciate it much.

[DW] Dreamwidth is shiny and I love it when the owners of the site are so helpful!

DREAMWIDTH IS ALLOWING THE IMPORT OF COMMUNITIES AS WELL AS JOURNALS! (soon)
http://dw-news.dreamwidth.org/31727.html (look for the HAPPY HOLIDAYS, DREAMWIDTH, HAVE A SHINY THING (soon) headline)

Meaning, you (if you are admin) can now import your whole community, comments and all, to Dreamwidth, instead of having part of the community here and the other part there!
I hope that will help people be more active on Dreamwidth, as most people's problem came from the fact that they were on DW and their communities on LJ, which didn't help at all ;p Especially with the whole comment debacle that will kill a lot of communities with the loss of comment subject.
Anyway, lots of people have move this month to Dreamwidth, so that will help grow the database too ^^

[MISC] Will LJ ever do something right?

And Livejournal fucked up yet again... >_<

This time, they
- changed the comment style page, destroying who knows how many communities, as they removed the subject box,
- used bright colors that hurts some people's eyes
- the russian staff 'insulted' the complaining people (non verbatim: "they're not happy with the changes" "oh, they'll get used to it" amongst others)
- for those who have a lot of userpics (and/or a slow connection), it's a nightmare to choose one, as there isn't a drop menu listing anymore, you have to charge a drop menu which displays all icons
- some users can't even use the comment part, something to do with a conflict with Firefox apparently. (when you know that Firefox is like, the second browser used worldwide...)
- they promised two weeks paid compensation for all the DDoS attacks and you might want to check, because I certainly didn't get mine!
- apparently, there was a beta for some English users and for Russian ones. Both, mainly, said no to the changes. LJ still went ahead. I wonder why they bother with a beta... >_<
- there is no preview available anymore, before validating your comment. They say that everybody will eventually be able to edit their comment, since a preview isn't something possible with this scheme. I mostly bought a paid LJ because I needed this feature and now it's free...
- ... I won't continue, as the list seems infinite.
(you can find more about this here: http://news.livejournal.com/140511.html . Check out the previous posts too, because this isn't the first post they published about this horror show.)

So, until now most changes didn't affect me, as I merely used Dreamwidth crosspost option and never had to "set foot" on LJ. Now, commenting is a bitch.
I already didn't like loosing time by commenting, but forced myself because authors deserved it. How many people do you think will simply throw in the towel and stop commenting altogether?

Anyway, it's 7:40 am, I lost half an hour with this shit when I should have left for work 10 minutes ago, so I'll just ignore this and go on with my life.

That said, I HAVE INVITE CODE FOR DREAMWIDTH PEOPLE, DON'T HESITATE TO ASK!!!
(also, there is a community where you can ask for codes, at [site community profile] dw_codesharing, and there is mostly always someone who can help you.)

I JUST DISCOVERED THAT "This week only, you can create a Dreamwidth account without an invite code."

==> Yeah! for Dreamwidth people!!! (and in fact, it appears that the without invite code works until the end of the year)

[MISC] [personal profile] yvi created a "Dreamwidth <3 meme" for 2011's "Three Weeks for Dreamwidth"...

... and my answer might have gotten a bit out of control xDDDD

So, here are a few reasons why I love ♥Dreamwidth♥:

♦ my main concern: the censure. I was always worried, back at LJ, that there would be a reenactment of the various Strikethroughs and that my Interests might get me into troubles (which has been known to happen at LJ T.T)

♣ the multilevel option for the tags. I love seeing my tags class itself by fandom, characters, pairings,... ♥

♠ the STICKY POST!!! OMG YES \O/ \O/ \O/ (and a sticky post which is really a post to which people can actually answer/comment, contrary to the one LJ created/copied from DW ;p)

♦ the separate subscribe/access lists. Because I might friend you at LJ even if I don't consider you a friend but merely want to follow your journal. I don't call friend every person with whom I shared three words ;p

♣ the auto crosspost feature (because I know that there are still some LJ hardcore or people who simply fear to lose their friends if they move)

♠ of course, the expand cut feature \O/ this is absolute love and makes it so easier to browse my Reading page!

♦ the website's layout: both for the journals and DW itself. It's so much easier to find something quickly (if only the customize journal page! ^^)

♣ the explore menu, especially the Lastest Things page and Popular Subscriptions. Because sometimes I have time to waste :D

♠ the reactivity of the owners and the Suggestion page ([site community profile] dw_suggestions). I'm still awed by the facts that we can propose a change and they will look at it and decide that 'yes, it could be useful' or 'maybe, but we need to change that', or 'no, it wouldn't work because'.

♦ also, the fact that we 'know' the DW maintainers. Having people on the other side feels so much better than a bunch of commercials/robots who don't care about my problems, because all they see is the money >_<

♣ the fact that the news journal is actually a news journal! Meaning, that [staff profile] denise and [personal profile] fu and [staff profile] mark actually keep us to date with what's going on, what they are working on, what problems there are actually, ...

♠ the reactivity of the pages. LJ has been so, so slow these last months, I feel like hitting my computer sometimes. Especially when I have a DW opened next to the LJ one and that it loads in seconds while the other takes minutes -_-

♦ the "page generated" timestamps. I love this little feature ^^ even if that's pure geek xD

♣ also, as [personal profile] andraste said: "I love that when those annoying trolls got PayPal and their next payment service to demand that they remove content from Dreamwidth, they stuck to their guns and refused to do it. I know that caused problems for them at a business level, and I admire them for putting the freedom of their user base first."

♠ And many other things ^^ There might be a bit less traffic here than on LJ, but so far, I haven't been disappointed! ^^

[MOVING] From LJ to DW

As you may have noticed, I have finally updated my Dreamwidth account.
It is now my main journal.

(and I'm still giggling insanely over how awesome DW's little various, perfect features make me feel so happy. I love the layout and colors and the multilevels tags and the crosspost/auto update posting settings and how I can customize the layout and the sticky post, the way everything is so much easier/more detailed to use once you caught the LJ/DW equivalents... \O/)

I'll keep my LJ as backup and so I don't have to bother myself with transferring all my notifications/friends.
Every links (especially for the fics) now point to its DW page equivalent (If you find something wrong, tell me please, so I can correct the links ^^).

Also, I advise you to use the tags at Dreamwidth directly, as all links point there anyway.

If you need to ask anything (even invite codes for DW, I have some left) or are searching for something (fic, various link), chances are that you'll find want you want here.

As I've stated previously, I'll crosspost my entries at LJ, so as not to bother my followers, but please, reply at the DW journal using either OpenID (which is ridiculously easy to set up ^^) or your active Dreamwidth account, thank you ^_^

[MISC] Time to move?

So, in about a month or two, it will be time for me renew my LJ paid account.

I'm thinking about abandoning this ship and moving definitively to dreamwidth (I already use it as locked backup journal). I prefer to give money for a fandom related/friendly website, rather than LJ. Way too much censoring for my taste, these past years.

What do you think? If you need, I have 9 invite code left. comment and I'll send it to you by private message.

The fact is, I was surfing AO3, which I didn't think would grow and be used at the time, but it does seem to have done well. 'till now, I only published at FFnet and my LJ, and I'm thinking that maybe it would be interesting to publish at AO3 too. Then I thought about Dreamwidth and how maybe it was time to move completely from LJ, especially as it's about time for me to renew my subscription.

I'm asking this especially for you, Calliopel. What do you think about moving? (and it doesn't mean that we have to totally ignore LJ and such, but I just don't want to move there all by my lonely self ^^;;)
