So, went to see the movie today ^^

I found it not too bad (but I'm not much of a critic, as I watch maybe three movies per year ^^;;;).

The romance/love story was way too much, but that my opinion in most movies, so I guess I can't really judge.

That said, the storyline itself wasn't too bad, but it could have used another hour to develop it fully and the specials effects were awesome! I found them better than for Tron 2. Maybe it's the fact that they used a lot of colors?
The (solid) bridge, particularly, was beautiful. When we saw Loki suspended over the space/vacuum/something, at the beginning of his fight against Thor, I was almost more interested by the play of colors and transparency than with the fight ;p

Oh, and Loki himself was... wow, very, very nice ;) I like that they managed to make him the big bad without turning him really bad/evil. That was well done, mostly. But the blond, muscled hero VS black hair, thin enemy was... -_-" Seriously?

Of course, I laughed almost out loud when we saw Thor dealing with people from Earth (probably wouldn't have been as funny if he had landed in, say, New York, though. They probably would have locked him up real quick T.T)

Worst part of the movie? The Men In Black that appeared from nowhere going nowhere and stealing scientists work for no reason. WTF? Honestly, at the end of the movie I was still like: 'what was the purpose of sticking those guys in the middle???'

I don't know enough of the mythology to judge the story (most of what I know of the Asgards and such comes from Stargate and [livejournal.com profile] jukeboxhound's info thanks to Eir's Tomorrow xD)
But overall, I had a good time. If they could have just zapped the end with the enamored girl who spend the rest of her life trying to reach a guy million lights years from Earth/Midgar... ^^;;

On a side note, I almost strangled myself with popcorn when the guys/heroes where introduced because I realized I was pointing at them in my head and going all: "ok, Thor=Gryffindor, Loki=Slytherin. "Short" blond guy (and I still don't remember his name)=Gryffindor. Big guy=Hufflepuff. Where do I stuck the girl, Gryffindor too?" That when I did a double-take at my thoughts. I can't believe that I categorize people like that! (the worst part is, now that I'm aware of it, I realize that's it's not the first time I do so O.O)

Have you seen Iron Man? The MIB guys will make a lot of sense suddenly if you do, basically.

Essentially, the Marvel Studios are creating separate superhero movie franchises that link with each other and are slowly converging towards one another based on the concept of the Avengers (an organization of superheros that work together to save the world). I guess some day we'll have a whole new shiny franchise with all of those guys in it at the same time.

It started with the first Iron Man movie. In it they presented the SHIELD organization (Security Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division), who recruit, manage and help keep superheros hidden from the public. That main MIB guy you saw in Thor is the same one that plays in Iron Man when he goes to recruit Tony Stark. So that's why they're stealing the scientists' work, to keep Thor hidden in case he's a superhero or something. I still found the whole intervention awkward, though, especially compared to how well and subtly they handled Iron Man (before he willfully went public).

Also, at the end of the Iron Man 2 generic, we see in the little bonus video the scene where MIB guy goes to the crater and says 'We've found it' about the hammer.

So yeah, that's the where and why of those guys. ^^; Marvel is making good movies but they should really keep in mind that not everybody who goes to see Thor will have also seen Iron Man. That's a bit of a misstep right there.

Also, since I've blabbered enough now, I'll just add one last comment: we should have seen more of Sleipnir!! *woe*

Aaaaah... this explains that!

No, I haven't seen Iron Man. I haven't read any Marvel comic book and if I've seen any other Marvel movie, I wasn't aware of the connection ^^;; (even Thor, I only realized that it was a Marvel when I saw the opening xD)
(or maybe X-Men. I think I watched one or two of these. It's Marvel too, no?)

Now I understand the whys and hows of those MIB! Seriously, they really need to add a footnote or something saying: "hey there! no, we aren't the Marvel's MIB version of Stargate!NID! don't worry, we're only there to help superheroes!"

Also, the French dubbing didn't help any -_-" The organization was still named SHIELD, but since it's an English acronym in a French movie, I didn't make the connection, especially as I don't remember seeing the acronym written anywhere.

I couldn't catch the VOSTFR T_T I hate watching movies in French, it's horrible. I've seen Pirate of the Caribbean 4's preview today (and OMG, it's released this month! I had forgotten O.O) and as much as Sparrow made me laugh immediately, the girl whose voice they used for P. Cruz was just... argh!

Happened the same thing with Miss Swan. I first saw the movie in English subbed, and everything was good. Then I saw the following in Canadian, which wasn't too bad, except for the part where I was used to some voices and it felt strange to hear others. But the last one I saw was in French and I WANTED TO KICK THEIR COLLECTIVE ASSES SO BAD >_<
Elisabeth was a strong, determined person and the French dub made her a whinny, falsetto bitch and it was just horrible. T_T

(Sorry, long post is long. Also, SLEIPNIR!!! First thing I thought when I saw the guys on their horses was: "aw, 4 legged usual beast T_T". Then the king came by and I almost squeed in the theater XD)

Thanks for the explanation, it was really needed ;p
